Bring cash

Many market stallholders prefer or require cash. While some may accept card payments, it's worth having cash on hand to avoid missing out.

Arrive early on Saturdays

The Saturday market gets busy, especially in peak dry season. Arriving close to opening time (8am) gives you the best pick of produce, food and handmade goods before popular stalls sell out.

Staircase timing: market hours vs moonrise

The market runs 4pm–8pm. The Staircase to the Moon phenomenon occurs at moonrise — which varies each month (see the schedule above). The moonrise is the main event; the market provides food, music and atmosphere around it. Check the moonrise time for your visit so you're in position at the right moment.

Two different locations

The Courthouse Markets (Saturday and Sunday) are held at the Broome Courthouse Gardens on Hamersley Street. The Night Markets and Staircase Markets are held at Town Beach on Robinson Street, overlooking Roebuck Bay. These are different venues — allow time to get between them if you're visiting both.

Check before you go
